Dr. Gabriela Duraes
Dentistry has been a huge part of Dr. Gabriela Duraes' life. Both her parents are dentists and, as you can see from the photo, Dr. Duraes grew up in a dental office. Because her parents would always take her to their dental office, where she would see many patients the sitting on the chair to receive treatment, the first time she was placed on a dentist chair she immediately opened her mouth. This photo was taken when Dr. Duraes was only six months old and did not have single tooth in her mouth!
Time passed and Dr. Duraes eventually attended the same university as her parents did. Dr. Duraes has many years of clinical experience in all aspects of dentistry. She is originally from Brazil, where she obtained her DDS degree at the Federal University of Diamantina, in 2005. Dr. Duraes distinguished herself during her dental education by ranking 2nd in her class.
After obtaining her dental degree, Dr. Duraes then moved to Baltimore and completed a two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at the University of Maryland. She excelled at the University of Maryland and received the "Harry W. F. Dressel Award" for clinical proficiency in General Dentistry and the concept of total patient care". During her time in Maryland, Dr. Duraes also earned a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences. She published the results of her Master's thesis in the Journal of Dental Research, one of the most prestigious dental scientific journals.
Dr. Duraes understands that skill and compassion go hand in hand when providing exceptional dental care. Dr. Duraes enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and cooking. She speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society and Chicago Dental Society.
